MemCloud launched with a few basic premises; it is fast, lower cost, simple to use and flexible enough to support a wide range of cluster needs.
The speed and costs advantages have been easy to demonstrate. Standard clusters such as Linux, Hadoop and Spark have been easy to deploy and use. MemCloud also enables an unprecedented level of cluster confliguration flexibility, which we should explain.
By default, MemCloud provides a 1X cluster based on 3 nodes, each with 8vCPU, 16GB RAM and 1TB of vdisks. The user specifies the Linux distribution and any software (e.g. Hortonworks Ambari 2.5). The total price is a simple, fixed $100 per week.
If you need more processing power, larger clusters can be provided - simple multipliers - 2X, 3X and so on. For example, a 4X cluster would have 12 nodes of the same size and cost $400 per week. Everything scales easily, but the complexity doesn’t increase.
Some applications need a more complex, multi-stack cluster with many types of nodes. For example, a cluster might need Kafka, Hadoop, Spark and Cassandra. For these applications, MemCloud offers custom clusters. For each stack, simply specify the number of nodes, the size of each node and the software required. Kodiak designs a DataContainer that includes each of the stacks and provides a simple weekly price based on its aggregate size relative to a standard 1X cluster.
The custom cluster might be internally complex, but MemCloud lets you manage the entire cluster infrastructure as a single entity. If you want another cluster of the same configuration, its trivial to replicate the dataContainer and create another one.
